History.

The Challenger 2 is a British main battle tank, developed in the 1990s to replace the Challenger 1. Built by Vickers Defence Systems (now BAE Systems Land & Armaments), it entered service with the British Army in 1998. Known for its robust armour and powerful 120mm L30A1 rifled gun, the Challenger 2 has seen deployment in various conflicts, including the Iraq War, where it proved its durability and effectiveness in combat.

In recent years, the Challenger 2 has also been used by Ukrainian forces. In 2023, the United Kingdom donated several Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine as part of military aid amidst ongoing conflict with Russia. This deployment marks the first time the Challenger 2 has been used in combat by a foreign nation, highlighting its continued relevance and the UK's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and defence capabilities.
