History.

The Dodge WC-56, part of the Dodge WC series, was a command reconnaissance vehicle produced during World War II. Manufactured by Dodge between 1942 and 1945, the WC-56 was designed to meet the U.S. Army's need for a versatile, durable, and capable light military vehicle.

The WC-56 featured a 3/4-ton, four-wheel-drive configuration, powered by a 92-horsepower, 6-cylinder engine. It was designed as a command car, equipped with seating for five, a folding windshield, and provisions for mounting communication equipment. The vehicle's robust build and off-road capabilities made it suitable for various terrains and operational needs.

Over 21,000 units of the WC-56 were produced during the war. It was widely used by Allied forces for command and control duties, including transporting officers, reconnaissance missions, and as a liaison vehicle. Its reliability and ease of maintenance were crucial in the diverse and challenging conditions of the war.

Post-war, many WC-56 vehicles were sold as surplus and adapted for civilian use, influencing the design of post-war civilian utility vehicles. The WC-56 remains an iconic representation of WWII military transport, valued by collectors and historians for its significant role in the Allied war effort.
