Â
History.
The Dassault Mirage IIIC was a French supersonic fighter developed during the late 1950s as part of France’s drive for an independent, modern air defence force. Designed by Dassault Aviation, it featured a distinctive delta wing and was capable of exceeding Mach 2, a major achievement at the time. The Mirage IIIC entered service with the French Air Force in 1961 as an all-weather interceptor armed with cannon and air-to-air missiles. It gained international recognition through export success, notably with Israel, where it proved highly effective during the Six-Day War of 1967. The aircraft’s performance, simplicity and combat record helped establish the Mirage family as one of the most influential fighter designs of the Cold War era.
